About me…
Laura Langabeer
After working in retail and hospitality, my love of nature and curiosity in growing my own food led me, in my late twenties, to take on a village allotment. This happened to coincide with the Covid pandemic and the allotment quickly became a haven — a place of reflection, learning, and connection. Horticulture quickly became a passion.
Through growing my own food, I developed a fascination for heritage plants and the incredible flavours, histories, and the human stories they carry.
This experience changed the course of my life.
At the age of 30, I took the plunge and retrained at Bicton College, where I gained my RHS Level 2 Diploma. For me, the greatest joy of this time was studying alongside my mother, with whom I also gained my Garden Design Certificate. From there, I continued my learning independently, researching heritage seed, traditional and sustainable growing methods including no-dig gardening, the milpa system, companion planting, and organic cultivation.
All of this has culminated in The Heritage Seed Farm — a small-scale growing project based in Upton Pyne, Devon, set within a paddock at a beautiful horse yard.
I am blessed with friends and family who have gotten their hands dirty and the land working; without them this project would not be possible.
The Heritage Seed Farm is my contribution to the wider movement to preserve and progress genetic diversity, heritage crops, and sustainable food production for the future.
