Mangelwurzel – Yellow Enkendorf

£2.50

A traditional heritage variety of Mangelwurzle, producing large cylindrical roots that often grow to 9 kg, growing two thirds above ground. Sweeter than other varieties, yellow Eckendorf was developed in Germany and widely grown in the UK by the 19th century.

Traditionally grown as beet fodder, however, when picked young its roots are eaten as sweet beet and its leaves used as spinach. It can also be used to make wine. This is an absolute must for any small holders!

Prefers well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter, full sun, and consistent moisture to prevent roots from becoming tough or woody
